What one person told you about cardamom plantation is exaggerated.

You may get only 300-400 Kg yield on an average basis.Price ranging from 450-650. From one acre you may get Rs.200,000/-
You have to spent 90,000-100,000 per acre per year. So your profit will be only 100,000/- per acre.

For purchasing original Patta land you have to pay at least 7 lakhs (if there is any road to this land). You wont get land here @ 2.5 lakhs.(you may get Kuthakapatta land for 3 lakhs but that land is not transferable as per law. (Kuthakapatta means Govt. has given land to cultivate cardamom (only cardamom) on lease). Please dont believe these brokers.

My house is at Anakkara, situates on Kumily- Munnar highway.more over I have 5 acres cardamom plantation. That is why I gave an explanation.

If you plan any more journeys/trips to our area, you may contact WIA anakkara. www.spicetourism.com

Best regards

Well, the post title was "dont come back if you have a choice" and not "dont go back" :-). As for the hotel part, it applies to a wide audience, not sure if everyone is as lucky as me for getting good food at home ;-)

cheers

That is a pretty debatable issue subbi. Say you go back and start a company and you do really well (I personally think you will. That would mean, you can probably get yourself a driver and not worry about traffic. And get yourself a damn cook :). Obviously you are claiming your wife doesn't cook well :) but you can be rest assured I will not tell her.

P.S. I liked her cooking :).

Stock options are a bit tricky. In general options can end up being valid only on paper. Some companies have moved to givin stocks instead of options.

Even within stock options, differences between startup and a public company. Upside with a startup is that when it goes public (eg: vmware, youtube, etc), there is a lot to gain. So if you have one offer from a startup, you will need to check out the potential (speciality of service or domain, any possible takeovers, chances of going public, etc). Stock options from public companies may not be that sexy but may be a good decision just based on where the price is hovering around (yahoo stock history).

In general there are too many external factors that govern the stock price affecting your options vesting, options can go under water and usually have a long term vesting period (5 yrs, vested at 20% each year). So you would need to spend enough time in the company to take advantage. Unless the options is offered from a startup that you find interesting (risk reward potential) and you are convinced on the company potential and plan to send enough time there, keeping "stock options" outside of your decision process may be a way to go. If you can get the other company to bump up the annual salary or sign-on bonus, maybe there can be an immediate gain :-).

There is always the talk about GOOG employees who got options at $0.25 ... but there are also several others which are probably waiting for their day. I think you should spend enough time to check out the company potential and then make a call. Good luck!

Rama,
Good ones. One question I got asked recently is how do we weigh the stock options. How much value do we give to it when you compare offers from 2 companies, one that gives options and one that doesnt?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that da Subbi. Like you said, I hope and pray she has a peaceful ending.

Makes you wonder if we are doing the right thing working here - do we lose more than we gain? Man, this ever omnipresent question is painful to even think about.

Tell me about it. There is no NFL this year in India because NBC took over the slots which ESPN was controlling and NBC has no partner to telecase it here :(.

NBC sucks. ESPN rocks..
